The horizontal planks ray ban outlet were successful for my challenge, but it became much better when the leaf oakleys outlet drifted into the shot.
My theme for this week’s photo challenge was “Horizontal”. For those who know what Houston means to Cheap NFL Jerseys me wholesale nfl jerseys at the end of October each year, you know that it means attending the International Quilt Festival. It’s a very intense time due to my long days of teaching and visiting with multitudes of amazing people. Nonetheless, I kept my eyes open for the week’s subject – horizontal. Walking to the hotel after breaking down our booth at the end of festival (challenge deadline day) I spied a wooden bench. The evening sun was illuminating it – but fading fast. I had only about three minutes to stop and compose this shot. I was glad the leaf drifted into my shot to add a focal point to the composition.
When you are looking at the world in a creative way you will be surprised what draws you in. Sometimes the most unexpected place will offer up a fantastic compositional da opportunity. The bench was in an ordinary setting. People walk by it every day. It was certainly horizontal and the planks created a stronger horizontal effect. What happened? I walked by – saw the horizontal lines – noticed the light – and BOOM, challenge accomplished!
Speaking of images – take a moment to exercise your creative brain. Look at this photograph and tell me what it says to you. After all, that’s what this site is all about – exercising your creative brain! Fire away!
Right place at the right time! What are the chances of this lonesome leaf drifting into you composition at just the right moment? Just like people pass in and out of our lives… I am thankful for all the leaves that drift into my path… Thanks for sharing Ricky!
I like the variety of textures. Not what you’d expect from a bench. It’s also interesting that the leaf picks up the colours. Happy coincidence!
Wonderful Composition! With the evening shade, it almost looks like there is a cool side and a warm side to the angles. A very comforting blend of oranges and blues.
This photo really touched me. We’re going through some obstacles right now. What do I see in this photo? Hope. A bench that shows wear. A place that has seated many souls. A leaf that has been shed by its tree as it prepares for hibernation. A leaf that helped shade the souls that found comfort on the bench. A moment that was magically caught that will last a lifetime as the two connected. Seasons bring change, but for them the change will be similar. Next spring the bench will still be there for those souls to rest upon. The tree will birth new leaves to give shade for those souls. Our lives are full of changing seasons. We’re stronger then any obstacle thrown at us. As emotionally worn as we feel, we’ll over come them and be stronger. This is deep, but it’s what I see. Thank you for sharing the photo and encouraging me to express how it inspires me. I’m feeling more at peace tonight then I have in a while.
I’m glad! 😉
I like the different textures and lines of the boards. Did you play with the colors or is the leaf really blue/gray?
For some reason the site is dulling the color actually. If you saw it on Facebook, it is more intense. The photo is processed to create more emotion.
I’ve been able to correct the color of the image so it’s not dull anymore on this blog. It was a color profile issue with WordPress.
Thanks for sharing all of your creativity with us. You have an eye for detail and composition. This time of year, it seems as if the photo opportunities are all around. Being in the right place at the right time with the right light is key! Do you use any photo software on your photos? I am excited for your contest to begin.
Thanks – I know you mean challenge, not contest, it’s a personal challenge, not a ‘who is best’ challenge. And another thing you will learn in the course is that anytime is the right time and any place is the right place. But… I understand what you mean.
Calm – The leaf has found a place to rest. The softness of the colors bring a sense of calm. The unwavering lines are calming.
The difference in texture in the boards and their edges give a soft contrast. I even find the two little round rivets next to the leaves a pleasing contrast to the straight lines of the boards.
I love that photography allows one to see the world and capture emotions. I look forward to 1215 Challenge with you.
I’m glad you like the two little screws. They add hidden interest. Good on you for for noticing!
I don’t have anything deep to say, but I love this image. I painted some leaves on wood a few years ago, so I’m obviously drawn to the textures, colors, warmth of wood, and I love Fall. I think leaves are incredibly beautiful, symbolic for so many things, and transitory. Like capturing a sunset. Wonderful photo.
Contrast was the first thing I saw. Contrast between the thick planks of weathered wood with its deep set lines and exposed grain. You can visually feel the weight of it. And then the leaf. So fragile and delicate – resting on the bench – so light it blows in the wind. Both from trees they came. And now by chance – just passing each other briefly – at different points in their lives. A lot like people do I suppose. There is SO much to see around us when we STOP and open our eyes! Thanks for sharing and nudging us to do the same!
It says to me that well worn holds much beauty. Like us! I really enjoy your perspective on life and the perfect opportunities that surround us each day.
The blue shade caught my eye first – the shade makes me think of the ocean and the calming effect watching waves roll in has on me – the bench is a wonderful place to sit and relax. Then the contrast of colors struck me – blues and oranges compliment each other – the hard, supportive bench contrasts with the delicate, fleeting leaf being blown hither and yon by the wind; just as we can be blown by the winds of life we find support in the steadfastness of our families and friends. Finally, the overall composition and texture of the photo shows that there is beauty anywhere if we just stop and take time to see. Thanks for sharing. I’m looking forward to the challenge and continuing learning to see with an artist’s eyes.
